Each year during Winter Garden Lodge No. 165 F&AM’s annual installation of officers ceremony there are many Introductions,  presentations, and recognitions.  Mason of The Year takes one of the top spots.  The outgoing Master of the lodge recognises one of the brothers in the lodge who has shown, in their eyes, the most dedication, devotion and worked the hardest for the fraternity as a whole but more especially for Winter Garden Lodge No. 165.  This year was no exception as one of our newer brothers Robert Daniel Shadowhawk Kuhl (Dan) was awarded this high honor by outgoing Master Frank Lopez.

Dan’s fervency and zeal for Freemasonry was evident early on in his Masonic career.  Having been freshly initiated himself he immediately took on a mentoring role assisting with the education of many of the initiates that were to follow. This is a duty that Dan continues to perform, most of it on his own time, trying to accommodate the brother’s schedules needing guidance.

Dan has also been very instrumental in the repair and upkeep of our lodge building. He has devoted much of his time and sweat to this endeavor.  He has stepped up to help build our parade floats and to volunteer for the many community activities that we are involved in. Dan has also served his time in the kitchen as many of us have.  We all know the what a job it can be feeding a hungry group of 50 or more.

Dan surpassed all expectations by stepping up as a concierge with The City of Winter Garden, sitting in on board and Chamber meetings and working with the local merchants to correlate the Lodge’s role in many of the city’s annual holiday parades and activities, including, but not limited to the 4th of July and Christmas Parades.

Dan’s service to his community and country doesn’t stop at the lodge building, Dan is a former deputy sheriff and a semi retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. We appreciate his service in all of these facets and are proud to call Dan Brother.
