From the East
The year is almost half over, and your Winter Garden Lodge is busier than ever. This past weekend was the 185th Grand Communication here in Orlando. Several pieces of legislature were brought up and passed. We will discuss these items at our first meeting in June.
Winter Garden was well represented, as all of your elected officers were there, plus members and past masters. Overall, the entire 17th Masonic District was there in force. There were almost 900 Brothers from all over the state attending. What a great bunch of men.
As a reminder, Saturday, July 12th at the Scottish Rite Temple in Winter Park, the 17th District will welcome the Grand Master, MW:.James Ford to our District. This is where all the Brethren of our lodges is encouraged to attend and meet the new Grand Master and Grand Line. The meal for you and your lady has already been paid for, so come on out and enjoy a great meal and great time with your brothers. Registration begins at 5:00pm., Dinner is at 6:00pm. There is always a fantastic Lady’s program while we are in our Tyled Meeting. I hope to see all the Brothers from Winter Garden Masonic Lodge there. Let’s impress them with our numbers.
We have tentatively scheduled another Fellow Craft Degree for our second meeting this month. Please come out, have dinner and watch your brethren confer this degree. You will be proud of the ritual work performed by your lodge. A Master Mason Degree has been scheduled for July 19th at 10:00, 11:00 and Noon. This will be held here at the Lodge, because of the heat that time of year. The next Master Mason Degree will be an Outdoor Degree. Please mark your calendars and do your best to attend. It is always great to have lots of Brothers on the sidelines.
Beginning this month, we are going to start our Phone Tree, to see if we can reach our Brothers who haven’t been to Lodge in awhile. We could use any information as to phone numbers and/or contact information you have.
In closing, let’s please remember our Brother Junior Deacon, Riggy Nunez and his family.
Brother Nunez was in New York on vacation recently, and was involved in a Head-On collision which totaled his car, and broke his left leg and right wrist. He is back here in Orlando for the surgery and rehab. Please keep him and his family in our Prayers. Prayers do work !!!
I hope to see every one of you at our next meeting.
Brother Jerry Clark
From the West
Congratulations to our new Entered Apprentices and a special thank you to the degree team for doing a fine job. We appreciate Worshipful Mike Kilgore for volunteering to sit in the east for that degree.
We have a FC Degree to confer for Brothers Zarth, Zetterlund, and Autry in June. Brother Mark Kirkley will be sitting in the East for this Degree. It should be a good one so don’t miss out. Our younger Brother Master Masons continue to shuffle through the different chairs for the degrees and gain valuable experience. It shows a great deal! We are currently practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays for the FC Degree which will be held on June 19th at 7:30 pm. Also, we will be having a MM Degree on July 19th so that you can plan to attend accordingly.

From the South
Greetings for June from the South. Let’s start this months topics with food. This months second stated meeting meal will be chicken-and-rice, green beans, and desert. Saving up the team efforts for what will prove to be a very busy first weekend in July. We would appreciate any help that wishes to come out for the 4th of July breakfast (will probably be in full speed cooking by 6am). Breakfast at 8am. In addition any help to assist with clean up after and then turn the set-up around for the next morning for 17th Masonic District Masters and Wardens breakfast at 8.
Grand Lodge was an interesting experience. A bit of Masonic education is warranted here after reading our lodge standing in the Committee Reports. Do you know what “let your pennies make good cents” means and where it started? It is spin off from the Endowment Fund for the Masonic Home. For many years plans were tried to increase funds. In 1955 at Grand Lodge W.Brother Fink presented an idea. Every mason were sent “penny banks” so they could contribute “one penny a day.” Contributions increased 200% the following year. Today in your dues notice, there is a voluntary contribution for the fund. The first year (1960) resulted in a 66% gain over the last year. What are you doing with your pennies?
We were the third highest district with $23742 donated. Sixths highest in per cap with $9.36. WG165 donated $741 (10th out of 11 places) with a per cap of $5.33 (10th of 11 places). Do you think we can do a bit more next year and move up the ladder? Also give yourselves applause for qualifying for the 2013 Masonic Education award. Not only did our district have the most number of lodges (six) but we were in that list.
Bro. Mark kirkley,

My Brothers, here is the latest information about Brother Riggy
Nunez, our Junior Deacon. He will have surgery on his knee on
Monday morning June 9th at Memorial Hospital in Winter Park. He will be in the hospital for a few days before returning home. He cannot use his leg for 8 weeks, after which time he will begin rehabilitation. He does not have to have surgery on his right hand but will be in a cast for a month and then they will look at his hand to see how it is healing. His telephone # is 1 (347) 469 6405 and his email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I am sure that he will appreciate your calls and emails as he recuperates as well as your prayers for a successful surgery.
Please remember to do all the good you can, whenever you can, wherever you can, to whomever you can, as often as you can, in any way that you can. It’s what we are about.
Fraternally, Brother Joe Gracey, Chaplain.
