At a regular communication of Winter Garden lodge No. 165 F&AM on August 2oth, a large contingent of brothers from our neighbor lodge to the East, Mokanna No. 329 showed up in force to collect the coveted Traveling Gavel trophy. We had an awesome dinner consisting of BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, mac & cheese, corn and some fantastic desserts. RW Donald Goolsby spoke about the recent Tennessee cave degree where the Proud 17 Masonic District was called upon at the last minute to confer the Master Mason degree in the cave. He commented that of the couple of thousand masons in attendance that most were impressed by the Florida ritual and attention to detail. The Proud 17 Masonic District has been called upon to perform the degree again next August and by the report that RW Goolsby delivered we can expect a much larger representation of our Central Florida brethren at the Cave Degrees next year. The DDGM delivered the Grand Master’s message of remembering the past and embracing the future eloquently, stirring the love and zeal for the fraternity that I know the brothers who were present have. Upon closing several of us met up at our regular haunt for a nightcap and reflected on the success and camaraderie of the evening.
